Sabbatical Diary – Day 17

Posted on:

Rua Reidh Lighthouse. 5 miles North of Melvaig. 12 miles North of Gairloch. My digs at the moment.

Quiet, relaxing, peaceful day. Wandering around the site here and up the coast a little. Enjoying the beauty of God’s creation and keeping an eye out for whales, porpoises and sea eagles. I did see two seals swimming between the coast and a small island about 20 feet out. Fairly wonderful.

Views South-West to Skye, North-West and West to Lewis and Harris (in the Outer Hebrides), and North-East to the coast of mainland Scotland. Due North is sea, sea, sea.

Finished reading my book on Northumbrian Saints. Feel inspired to visit Durham Cathedral, and possibly Beverley Minster, Ripon Cathedral, Hexham Abbey, and the Museum of Early Medieval Northumbria at Jarrow. But not on this trip I’m afraid.

(York Minster is an important site in the story of the Northumbrian Saints, but I know it quite well having lived in York for a year after finishing University.) (Lindisfarne is obviously very, very important and I have some time there in a week or so.)

Sunset over Lewis! Spectacular.

Good night. God bless.
