Sabbatical Diary – Day 6
Stunning view from my room in Dunoon. You can see Great Cumbrae, Little Cumbrae, Ailsa Craig (way off in the distance), Arran, and Bute, as well as some of the peninsula leading down to Toward Point. Not bad!
Morning Prayer in Cathedral this morning (which was great), 10 of us again. Then the best breakfast of the trip so far. I was expecting something monastic in the Cathedral Refectory. (‘Here’s your porridge, and there’s the salt!’) But no. Epic.
Cold and dry for the short trip to the ferry back to the mainland. Loved the island. Loved the Cathedral. Loved the quiet time and the shared prayer times.
Trip today featured rain, hail, lots of cloud, and a little sunshine. Views were truly epic though. Round the coast of Argyle before crossing the Erskine Bridge, up the East side of Gair Loch (passing Naval based on the way), then back down the West side to Kilcreggan, up the East side of Lich Long, back down to Lochgiilhead (quite a scary road, very narrow, very twisty, very, very steep), then down to Dunoon on what my host describes as the ‘Costa del Clyde’.
Went down to Toward point to save a little time in the morning. 153 miles. I think 3 lighthouses.
Popped into Tesco today (to use the facilities). No reassuring signs on the automatic doors as to what happens in the case of fire. Scary.
