Sabbatical Diary – Day 49

Caldey Abbey.

Had a great morning on Caldey Island.

Said Morning Prayer in the Abbey Chapel:

Spent a little time in St David’s Church:

And went to see the full size crucifix at ‘Calgary’:

All very powerful and memorable.

I didn’t visit the chocolate factory!

Caldey Abbey is relatively new, built by Anglican Benedictine monks who came to Caldey Island in 1906. It is now occupied by monks of the Cistercian Order.

I liked Caldey. It has an ‘other worldly’ quality about it. I think it would be a good place to spend a few days. But, sadly, not on this trip.

Travelled St David’s this afternoon. We travelled through Pembroke and Dale, and down to St Anne’s Head.

View from Dale.

Then up the coast to Newgale and on to St David’s.

Will explore tomorrow.

God bless,

Mike
