About Me

Rachel and Rachel

I’m Rachel and I am passionate about Fairtrade and the difference it makes to producers and artisans around the world.

Fairtrade at St Stephen’s strives to sell a wonderful range of delicious Fairtrade food as well as beautiful handicrafts created by talented artisans around the world.

Each product purchased makes a real difference to real people, with fair prices being paid to each producer and artisan, alongside fair working conditions for all involved.

I love choosing products to sell and in ‘normal times’ I also enjoying arranging the display in St Stephen’s Church as well as supporting other local fayres throughout the year.

Sparkly Pens

These sparkly pens are very popular, they are handmade in India using traditional handicraft techniques.

They are £1 each.

Coloured Pencils

These coloured pencils come as packs of 10, available in either extra small (8.5 cm) or large (18cm).

The pencils are handmade in Thailand, crafted from the natural tree branches of the Tamarind tree which is very common throughout Southeast Asia.

Trees are farmed for their fruit and after the fruit is harvested, the branches are cut and left to dry in the sun. They are then drilled and the pencil colour is inserted. (Pencil colour does not run the whole length of the pencil)

Large: £3.50; Extra small £1.50

Leather Look Journal

A7 (7 x 11 cm) mini notebooks with plain paper inside.

Mini Notebooks

These adorable little mini notebooks would be a cute child pocket sized notebook – perfect for stockings! And would be great teamed with some pens or pencils.
The notebooks are handmade in Nepal, with the cover made from lokta paper, which is handmade using the fibrous inner bark of the “Daphne Papyrus” bush. This particular plant only grows at an altitude of 6500ft or above in the Himalayas.

Every single sheet of paper is handmade by a cupful of lokta pulp being added to wooden/mesh frames. Once the pulp has been hand circulated, the frame is gently lifted to ensure even distribution, ensuring amazing accuracy can be achieved by the skilled artisans.

Every time we buy these gorgeous notebooks from our supplier, Namaste, as well as ensuring that the artisans are paid fairly, they contribute a percentage of every purchase to Child Rescue Nepal.

Each notebook is 5 x 7cm and 1 cm thick. The internal pages are plain paper.

£1.50 normally, today £1.25 or £1.00 if you purchase to add to the gifts for the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Appeal.

Notebooks with Paintings

Little notebooks featuring cute colourful drawings designed by children supported by the Umang Project in Jaipur, India. Children with special needs are rehabilitated and given opportunities through this pioneering project. Currently more than 200 children benefit from the services offered.

A portion of the purchase price of each pack of notebooks goes to Umang (when we buy from our importer).
