Ash Wednesday this year is Wednesday 18 February.

The Ash Wednesday Holy Communion Service (with imposition of ashes) will take place at 10.00 am at St Ethelbert’s Church in Littledean.

In the evening, the Pilgrim Course, this years Benefice Lent Course, will start. The course will take place weekly at Rheola House, Belle Vue Centre (on Belle Vue Road in Cinderford, near the Library). Refreshments will be served from 7.00 pm, the course itself will start at 7.30 pm and run until 9.00 pm.

Pilgrim is a new teaching and discipleship resource aiming to help people explore Christian faith together and see how it can be lived out each day.

Pilgrim has two stages: Follow and Grow. Follow looks at the decision to follow Jesus and the basics of belief. Grow discusses growing as disciples. Each stage contains four short courses which focus on a major theme of Christian life.

Pilgrim assumes very little knowledge or understanding of Christianity, but aims to equip people to follow Jesus as disciples through their lives.

In the early church, Christian faith was taught through key texts which summed up the Christian message. Pilgrim uses this approach.

The first course in the Follow stage is called Turning to Christ. (The other courses in the Follow stage are The Lord’s Prayer, The Commandments and The Beatitudes.)

Turning to Christ seeks to answer the question ‘What do Christians believe?’ through six questions candidates are asked at baptism.
