Sabbatical Diary – Day 4

The magnificent Mull of Galloway Lighthouse

Absolutely wonderful day! Beautiful clear blue sky all day, but cold. Three degrees outside this morning! (But no sign of Diana Ross.) Prayer and breakfast again started what was to be a fantastic day. Up to Dumfries from Glencaple and then down to Southerness. Wonderful. Around the coast, then back down to Isle of Whithorn (not an island it turns out!), across to Monreith and a stunning ride up through Port William (yes Port, not Fort) and up to Auchenmalg. Just amazing. Mile upon mile of rocky shoreline, with the deep blue sea set off by bright yellow gorse, and occasional patches of bluebells in wooded areas. Awesome. Then down again to Mull of Galloway and up to Portpatrick. All just lovely.

205 miles (detour to Stranraer for petrol). 5 lighthouses visited (and one seen at a distance on an island).

Had a wonderful moment with Natalie at Mull of Galloway Lighthouse and Michelle and friends at Killantringan Lighthouse.

Happy Birthday Michelle!

Speaking of wonderful moments with chance acquaintances, some of you have been asking how I came to meet Mr Whippy yesterday. Well, as I’m sure you’ve all heard me say ‘What happens at Workington Lighthouse carpark, stays at Workington Lighthouse carpark!’ So that’s the end of that. Mr Whippy, your secrets are safe with me.

Staying at stunning B&B between Portpatrick and Stranraer tonight. Off to Great Cumbrae tomorrow.

(No Cuthbert tonight.)

(And yes, I know Diana Ross sang with The Supremes not The three Degrees. The joke made me say that!)

God bless.
