Sabbatical Diary – Day 29

Posted on:

Fort Paull. Quirky military museum in historic gun battery on North side of Humber near Hull.

Old Spurn Lightship, currently in Hull Marina.

Flat day. Literally and metaphorically. Cleethorpes very much the highlight of a largely uneventful day. Miles of golden sandy beaches with fabulous view across the mouth of the Humber to Spurn.

Turns out, that I guess because Lincolnshire is so low and so flat, that there is a coastal barrier all around. So, once you have passed Cleethorpes, and moved away from the Humber estuary to the coast proper, as you drive around Lincolnshire you can’t actually see the sea from the road. You can see caravan sites, amusement arcades, fish and chip shops, fun fairs, and everything else you would expect to see at a seaside town, but you can’t see the sea unless you climb over a barrier, man-made or otherwise. So, a ride around the coast isn’t as exciting as it could be.

But, dry all day, no problems, all good.

Off to Walsingham tomorrow. Never been before. Looking forward to it.

God bless,

Mike
